An exciting three-piece band that live in the very heart of the DIY ethos, Dirtycakes have risen through the thriving punk scene to become one L.A.’s most highly anticipated musical forces. The creative outlet of Charley, Rick, and Becky, Dirtycakes is built from vastly different backgrounds, creating a sound that puts equality above all.
Musically, the trio’s sound comes steeped in fuzzy 60’s rock influences, pushing their way through the decades to incorporate elements of classic ‘70s punk, ‘90s grunge-filled rock and everything in between. With a love and passion for the musical greats like Tom Waits, Queens of the Stone Age, The Zombies, Motorhead, Black Sabbath, and The Buzzcocks, to name just a few, Dirtycakes are a band following in the footsteps of giants.
Inspired by their own personal struggles, individual freedoms, and a drive towards equality for all, Dirtycakes have already made their mark on music with tracks like ‘Resist 45’, ‘Naked’, and ‘Gimme Some’.
The big news for the band, however, comes in the form of their upcoming new album, a self-described masterpiece recorded at the famed Rancho De La Luna studio in Joshua Tree, California. A “dream come true” for the band, their recent work at the studio backs the ethos and mystique of the band’s sound, pushing it in new directions and building their punk edge into something more visceral.
Charley from the band recounted their time at the studio, speaking openly about their experience, “we went in, and within hours we had 6 tracks down, we spent a few days having fun layering sounds, eating great food, enjoying the stars, telling stories and having the time of our lives”.
While not much has been released about the upcoming new album, the band have promised that it’ll be “the greatest piece of work Dirtycakes has ever done”, and after hearing a few snippets of things to come, we couldn’t agree more.
