Review: Ticka Tev – ‘Skip 2 Ma Louz’

An aspiring rapper and entrepreneur from the San Francisco Bay Area, Ticka Tev is an that is artist keen to share his sound and spread his message. With a penchant for driven hip-hop and rap that tends towards more spoken word verse, Ticka Tev music is built on his passion and faith, reflecting the love that he has for his life, his freedom, and his ability to create.

A debut of sorts, ‘Skip 2 Ma Louz’ is the first song that Ticka Tev created. Based upon another song titled ‘Deception’, Ticka Tev’s single arrives as a hybrid between the two, defining his sound and direction as both an artist and founder.

Rising from a scattered and staged beginning, ‘Skip 2 Ma Louz’ eventually takes shape through a simple stream of repeated tones, forging a looped melody that builds over a light cascade of subdued beats. Through the gentle mix Ticka Tev’s vocals surface, cracking through the veneer with polished repetition of sparse words. It’s not an immediately engaging opening, but it quickly transitions into a more robust form, pushing forward after a minute of intriguing noise to create a vibrant and unwavering mix of digital tones and quasi-poetic lyrics.

It’s an undeniable sound that you can’t help falling for, largely due to the originality and energy of the piece. Ticka Tev has clearly put a lot into the track, and you have to applaud his fresh take on what has surely become one of the most over-saturated genres.
