Review: Airwaves Spectacular – ‘Sinemadik’

An original rock band with a penchant for infusing their anthems with elements of vibrant, modern pop, Airwaves Spectacular have been carving up the music scene of Baltimore, MD ever since the release of their debut, self-titled album in 2017. Blending a range of styles into one unique sound, the band have earned praise for fresh take on modern rock music, continuing to push boundaries with each subsequent release.

One of the more anticipated albums this year, ‘Sinemadik’ sees the band conjuring up ten tracks of delicately overlapped rhythms and melodies. Opening with the likes of ‘Felidae’ and ‘Call Waiting’, the new album instantly creates a complete and totally entrancing web of sound, bringing together dual vocals and unique, memorable instrumentals. With two different, but wonderfully complimentary sounds, you would be hard pressed to find a more engaging and listening opening to an album.

Like flipping a switch, Airwaves Spectacular are able to change their sound from contemporary jazz to soaring, sonic atmospherics, firing on all cylinders with tracks like ‘Target Obvious’. It’s a brilliant, alarming change in style, one dominated by synths and enveloping digital rhythms that really hit hard. It’s a neat trick, and one that the band have refined to perfection over the past releases, using it to full effect in ‘Sinemadik’ and making the album all the better for it.

You can find a number of reasons to love Airwaves Spectacular’s new album, but in the end, all comes down to the absolute quality of the songs. Well-polished, firmly-constructed, and played with real passion, ‘Sinemadik’ is an album that will put Airwaves Spectacular firmly on your radar in just one listen.
