Born in Brooklyn, but raised in the DMV area, Daimo has survived a life of hardships to become one of the underground’s most authentic new voices. Born into a dysfunctional family and all but an abandoned by his father, Daimo spent the majority of his life hustling on the streets and fighting to survive in prison. At just fifteen he was already catching charges, racking up a long list of felonies including attempted murder, burglary, assault, possession with intent, and theft.
In June of 2016, at the age of twenty-three, Daimo left prison for the last time, bringing with him a newfound sense of purpose and determination. Ditching his day job to pursue a career in music, Daimo spent the next four years becoming one of the DMV’s most pronounced and prolific voices.
Earlier this year, Daimo began carving out his musical legacy with the release of ‘Freebando’, a visceral and unyielding debut album filled to the brim with sharp lyrics and uncompromising beats. It was an album that marked the beginning of a triumphant new wave in hip-hop, one that Daimo is firmly at the forefront of. Not one to rest on his laurels, Daimo quickly followed ‘Freebando’ with the triumphant ‘Daimo Wit A Dracoo’, a three-track EP that has become one of his most influential releases to date.
Most recently, Daimo has been releasing an impressive string of singles, taking to Spotify to build his reputation and launch his sound to the world. Including certified hits like ‘Unstoppable’, ‘I Am’, ‘Winning’, and the politically charged ‘Can Breathe’, Daimo’s Spotify channel has become one of the great new spaces for rap fans. Easily one of the hardest working and most exciting new talents in rap, Daimo has pinned everything on his dream of making music, pouring his heart, soul, time and money into his dream, and so far, it’s paying off brilliantly.
Forged through hardship and built to last, Daimo has created one of this year’s most impressive musical legacies, conjuring up a rough-and-ready tapestry of melodic tones, flickering beats, rampant tempos, and driven lyrics that look set to change contemporary hip-hop forever.
